Trader Joe’s Mini Chicken Tikka Samosas: A Delightful Indian Appetizer

When it comes to frozen samosas, it can be tough to find ones that rival the flavors of Deep Indian Kitchen samosas. However, Trader Joe’s has stepped up to the plate with their Mini Vegetable Samosas, which we previously found to be a delightful appetizer. Today, we’re exploring the non-vegetarian version of this treat: Trader Joe’s Mini Chicken Tikka Samosas. These samosas have caught our attention because they received a favorable rating from Search India, known for their discerning taste in Indian food.

Cooking these frozen samosas is a breeze. Simply preheat your oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit, cover a baking sheet with aluminum foil, and arrange the samosas on the sheet without touching. Pop the whole thing into the oven for approximately 15 minutes. No chutney or dipping sauce is included, so you don’t have to worry about thawing any sauces. The full cooking instructions can be found on the package scans below.

The samosa shells have a slightly greasy feel and a flaky consistency. They are mildly crispy, which adds to the overall satisfaction. Inside, you’ll find a delectable filling predominantly made of chicken, onions, and potatoes. It’s seasoned with garlic, ginger, and a blend of spices, creating a flavor combination that is truly delightful.

While some may prefer to have chutney or sauce alongside their samosas, we find that these samosas have plenty of flavor on their own. The box states a spice rating of 2/5 peppers, with Trader Joe’s website rating it as medium spice. However, we find these descriptions to be a bit vague. As Midwesterners, our spice tolerance may differ from those in India or the Southern United States. Nonetheless, we can confidently say that these samosas are not overly spicy. They do have a hint of spice, which may lead to a slight clearing of the sinuses, but “medium” seems to be a bit of an exaggeration. These samosas are not very spicy.

According to the package, the serving size is two samosas, and a package contains twelve. Consuming just two samosas will provide you with 80 calories (30 from fat) and 100 mg of sodium. If you decide to indulge in the entire box, you would consume 480 calories (180 from fat) and 600 mg of sodium. These numbers are surprisingly reasonable, making it less guilt-inducing to devour the whole box in one sitting.

Trader Joe’s Mini Chicken Tikka Samosas are a delectable snack. They may not be the most filling option, but they are designed to be an appetizer rather than a full meal. We believe they make an excellent addition to any dining experience, whether it’s a small gathering or a relaxed night in.
