Are you curious about what you can expect when purchasing a side of beef? Look no further! In this comprehensive guide, we’ll break down the cost, the amount of meat you’ll receive, and the different cuts you can expect. So grab your apron and let’s dive in!

The Cost of a Side of Beef

At Rowdy Hog Smokin BBQ, we understand the value of a good investment. When you purchase a side of beef through us, you’ll enjoy the convenience of one price that includes all of your butcher fees. No hidden surprises!

Currently, our side of beef is priced at $2.99/lb hanging weight. This price also covers custom cutting and wrapping. You may be thinking, “That sounds a bit steep.” However, consider this: for a grand total of $1381.38, you’ll have enough beef to last you the entire year. That’s only $2.99/lb! Plus, when there are beef recalls, you can rest easy knowing that the meat in your freezer is healthy and safe for your family.

How Much Meat Can You Expect?

When it comes to purchasing a side of beef, size matters. This year, we’re excited to offer our largest side yet, weighing in at 462 pounds hanging. Keep in mind that after butchering and dry aging, the weight will decrease a bit, but you’ll still have an abundant amount of meat to work with.

The Cuts You’ll Receive

With our butcher, you have the freedom to customize your order to suit your family’s preferences. When you purchase a side of beef from us, you won’t receive organ meats, tongue, or tail unless specifically requested. We understand that not everyone enjoys these cuts, so we pass them on to others who do.

Freezer Space Requirements

Now that we’ve covered the cost and the cuts, let’s talk about freezer space. This is an important consideration when purchasing a side of beef.

This year, I decided to split the beef between two freezers. I used a small 7 cubic foot chest freezer to store all the ground beef and soup bones. The rest of the beef went into our 15 cubic foot upright deep freezer. It took up four shelves and most of the door, leaving ample space for other items like chicken, produce, and even some bacon.

If you only have one freezer, keep in mind that a 460 lb side of beef will require approximately 12-15 cubic feet of space. For a smaller 200 lb side or quarter, you’ll need a little less – around 10 cubic feet. The key is to stack the individually wrapped packages carefully to avoid any mishaps when opening the freezer.

And there you have it! A side of beef from Rowdy Hog Smokin BBQ is not only a delicious investment but also a way to simplify your grocery shopping for months to come. Menu planning just got a whole lot easier!
