The Art of Grilling the Ultimate Porterhouse Pork Chop

If you’re on a quest for the perfect grilled Porterhouse pork chop, you’ve come to the right place. Prepare to discover a foolproof method for cooking a succulent Porterhouse pork chop that will leave you craving more.

When it comes to grilling, I leave it in the capable hands of my husband. He has a unique talent for transforming any cut of meat into a masterpiece. So when the National Pork Board approached me to create a recipe featuring a Porterhouse pork chop, I couldn’t resist the challenge.

Curiosity led me to my local Kroger to inspect this mysterious cut of pork. As it turns out, the Porterhouse pork chop is simply a fancy name for the Bone-In Loin Pork Chop. The renaming of certain pork cuts was done to align them with their beef counterparts, facilitating identification and preparation.

When working with a premium cut of meat, I prefer to keep things simple and allow the flavors to shine. That’s exactly what I did with these Porterhouse Pork Chops. After a brining session, I generously coated them in a delectable homemade steak rub. Grilling them was similar to cooking a steak.

Luckily, my husband arrived just in time to take charge of the grill. While he worked his magic, I focused on preparing sides – green beans and roasted red potatoes. As I occasionally peeked outside, a pattern emerged. Grilling, it seemed, was easier than I thought. Every time I stepped out, there he was, comfortably seated, engrossed in his phone.

Mastering the Perfect Grilled Porterhouse Pork Chop

Achieving grilling perfection goes something like this:

  1. Place the meat on the grill, close the lid, and assume a comfortable position – game of Clash of Clans optional.
  2. After approximately 8 minutes, rise from your throne and open the grill. Take a moment to appreciate your culinary prowess. Flip the meat and close the grill. Return to your seat and continue your royal gaming session.
  3. After another 6-8 minutes, interrupt your gaming once more. Open the grill, grab your trusty tongs, and remove a chop to insert a meat thermometer into the center. Wait for the reading. If it hasn’t reached 145 degrees, return the chop to the grill and close the lid. Allow it to cook for another 2 minutes while you check on the garden.
  4. Return to the grill, open it, remove a chop, and recheck the temperature. Once it has reached a perfect 145 degrees, remove all the chops from the grill. Turn off the grill and the gas. Your mission is accomplished!
