Lean-to Chicken Coops: A Journey in Quality and Service

Smokin’ BBQ enthusiasts and home chefs, gather ’round! We have an exciting tale to tell you about the birth and growth of Lean-to Chicken Coops at Rowdy Hog Smokin BBQ.

The Genesis of Excellence

It all started in 1988 when the Swartzentruber family, known for their prowess in produce farming, decided to embark on a new venture. They began Green Acres as a small side business in Allentown, Pennsylvania, selling wooden lawn furniture three days a week from April to July. Their dedication to quality and craftsmanship quickly made them popular throughout the Lehigh Valley.

Coming Into Their Own

As demand for their products soared, the Swartzentrubers realized they needed to focus their efforts on serving their growing customer base. Thus, they made the bold decision to stop produce farming and instead dedicate their full attention to Green Acres. In 1991, they acquired a lot behind a McDonald’s, which proved to be the perfect location for their expanding enterprise.

Growth and Diversification

With each passing year, Green Acres blossomed. A family partnership was formed in 1991, and over time, the Swartzentrubers added sheds, gazebos, and playsets to their product lineup. Their commitment to customer satisfaction led them to open a second location in Easton, Pennsylvania, in 1999, further increasing their reach and availability.

Embracing Change

The years spanning 1999 to 2001 witnessed exponential growth for Green Acres. New product lines were introduced, and the business expanded its delivery and setup services. In 2003, the Swartzentrubers made a significant decision to purchase a warehouse facility in Hamburg, Pennsylvania, solidifying their commitment to excellence.

Innovation in Challenging Times

In 2004, the Swartzentruber family faced a new challenge: sluggish winter sales. Always resourceful, they established a home heating oil division to offset the seasonal slowdown. This move not only ensured a steady revenue stream but also allowed them to serve the entire Lehigh Valley by providing heating oil at fair prices.

Building for the Future

With demand ever-increasing, the need for a larger showroom and storage space became evident. In December 2006, the Swartzentrubers acquired a new property in Easton along Rt. 33. This expansion allowed for a significantly larger indoor and outdoor showcase of their products, accommodating the growing demand of their valued customers.

Spreading Our Wings

Driven by their passion for quality and service, Green Acres seized an exciting opportunity in 2007. They opened a third location in Marietta, Georgia, expanding their reach beyond Pennsylvania. Today, Green Acres of Marietta stands firmly as a testament to the brand’s commitment to excellence.
