Microwave Corn on the Cob: A Quick and Delicious Method

Did you know that you can make mouthwatering corn on the cob in just 5 minutes using your microwave? It’s true! By following a few simple steps, you can achieve perfectly steamed corn kernels every time.

The Magic of Microwaving Corn

Say goodbye to lengthy cooking times and hello to convenience. Microwaving corn on the cob is a game-changer. All you need to do is place the corn cobs on a plate with some water, cover them loosely, and let the steam work its magic. The result? Tender and succulent corn kernels ready to be devoured.

This method has become my go-to way of cooking corn ever since I discovered it. It’s incredibly easy, especially when you only need to cook a couple of ears of corn. It’s a time-saver, ideal for those moments when firing up the grill isn’t an option.

How to Microwave Corn on the Cob

Prep the Corn

Start by removing the husks and silk from the fresh corn, ensuring a clean slate. Place two tablespoons of water on a large microwave-safe dinner plate. I personally recommend Corelle plates as they are affordable, durable, and can be used in various kitchen appliances. Next, carefully place two corn cobs on the plate and cover them with an inverted second dinner plate.

Microwave the Corn

Now it’s time to let the microwave work its magic. Pop the plate with the corn cobs, water, and inverted plate into the microwave. Cook the corn for a total of 4-5 minutes, or until the kernels turn a deeper yellow shade and become tender. I usually start with 4 minutes and then check the progress.

Get Ready to Indulge in Deliciousness!

Once the corn is cooked to perfection, use tongs to transfer the hot cobs from the plate onto another serving dish. To make your corn even more delightful, insert corn holders into the ends of each cob. From there, get creative with your toppings. Whether you prefer a classic spread of butter and salt or a zesty Mexican-inspired mixture of mayonnaise, cheese, garlic powder, chili powder, and cilantro, the choice is yours. The possibilities are endless!
